Time Machine in Mac computer has many advantages over existing backup system:
1.Using Time Machine just need a one-off overall disk clone, which saving both time and labor compared to disk tool, SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.
2.Time Machine can keep completeness of operating system and its documents history. You never need to worry about having no idea of recovering documents to what path after they are removed to Recycle Bin. Document wrong deleted can be recovered as long as they exist in the system for over an hour.
3.With Time Machine, you don’t need to select backup content during set backup time, since it is for the whole system and it run continuously. Sure, you can turn off the Time Machine when you don’t want to backup.
4.Because of using FSEvents, Time Machine doesn’t need to scan hard disk since system resources used during backup process is only a little.
5.Different from Windows Shadow Copy technology, Windows allows users to recover to its original system status. After recovering, the new state will lose. Time Machines will help you travel to and from history and present.
What to pay attention to when using Time Machine in Mac?
1.You’d better start Time Machine at the beginning of finishing installation, since clone the overall disk is pretty time-consuming. At the beginning of installation, its content is at its minimum, start Time Machine at which moment can help you save much time.
2.Time Machine uses hard link in case of unchanged historical documents. If the document is corrupt when you start Time Machine, it won’t intact any more.
3.If you have any document that can’t show to others, we suggest you don’t use Time Machine. We have mentioned the document deletion mechanism: hard link just is a pointer. As long as the pointer is there, we can find the document. In another word: when a document has multiple pointers, you need to delete all pointers. Only after this, you can no longer recall the document. Although Time Machine there is function in Time Machine that can let you to delete all backups of a document, but if you have many documents of this kind, this is pretty tricky. If you want to delete chatting record with or photo of your ex-boy friend or girl friend and your long-term chatting with your families, the deleting can be a pretty difficult work. At this moment, you can just format your backup disk. Restart Time Machine for clone of overall disk.
4.Time Machine will help you to recover when system crash. However, if there is any problem of your backup disk, Time Machine won’t help you.
5.Time Machine will backup each hour, if you create any document during this period of time and delete unintentionally. Time Machine won’t help you.
6.Can Time Machine be used to backup windows sector divided by bootcamp? If the Mac OS isn’t running and haven’t start Time Machine yet, then the answer is an absolute no. In case Mac OS is running, a situation I haven’t tried before, I don’t know if Time Machine can be used to backup content of installed Mounted Sharepoint. I think the answer is no. It may exceed the control scope of FSEvents in your system.
Backup of Time Machine can’t start on its own. So, you’d better divide a partition in the hard disk to be used to store backup and after initially operating Time Machine in the system, make 7.total backup at another partition. Thus, once the system breaks down, you can use your total backup and keep on working.
